SimplePractice

Demo question: Join the visit from the appointment, write the note on that chart, and open the agreement you signed.

Note Taker, which the pricing page says covers telehealth and in-person sessions, is the paid notes add-on. A telehealth claim on your panel is still a click you have to make. The agreement is with SimplePractice LLC and applies only if the business-associate definition is met.

Jane

Demo question: Start a one-to-one visit from the appointment, open the chart without leaving the visit, and ask for the agreement PDF.

One-to-one video connects to scheduling, charting, and billing. Group video is an optional add-on for up to 15 people. Confirm which pricing-page column is checked before you treat intake forms or outcome measure surveys as included. AI Scribe is a separate add-on, not the note itself. The telehealth page says the visits are encrypted and compliant with HIPAA, PIPEDA, and GDPR. The HIPAA guide says Jane can work with you to develop a BAA agreement.

Practice Better

Demo question: Join from the portal, show the note landing on that chart, and open the agreement.

Confirm a scored measure on the demo if you use one. The telehealth page says you can take session payments and bill insurance from the virtual-visit workflow. It claims HIPAA, PIPEDA, GDPR, and PHIPA, plus AES-256 encryption.

Sessions Health

Demo question: Turn telehealth on, join from the appointment, and show whether the $10 a month line is already on the invoice.

The telehealth page describes a waiting room, screen share, in-session chat, and multi-person sessions for couples and family work. It does not show the visit opening on the chart. Confirm a scored measure on the demo if you use one, and confirm the format you file lands on that visit. Electronic claims are listed separately, starting at $0.25 a claim. The business associate agreement page says the agreement is effective upon signing up, between you as the covered entity and Sessions Health, Inc. The Sessions Health Help Center article Business Associate Agreement (BAA), October 8, 2026, says checking the box during signup accepts that agreement, and you do not sign it again when you upgrade to a paid account. The security page claims HIPAA compliance, AES-256 encryption, and encryption in transit and at rest.

What a telemedicine EHR has to prove

Thursday, 6:10 p.m. The video link is in your email, and the note is in a second tab. A telemedicine EHR has to close that split before you move a real client.

You are not shopping a video app. You are shopping the chart the visit has to live in.

An EHR with telehealth can still leave the note in a second window. An EMR telemedicine listing is the same test under an older name. The best EHR for telemedicine, for your week, is the one that passes the click. A badge does not.

The wider record shortlist, by payer and headcount, is in best EHR for private practice. This page does not repeat that shortlist. It asks one narrower question: when the hour is on video, does the record still hold together?

If the gap you feel is the category, not the visit, start with best behavioral health software and come back here for the video test. If the gap is the claim after the visit, use mental health EHR billing software. Do not buy a second chart to fix a claim path you have not tested.

Six clicks, then a call

Print this before the demo. Write the answer in the product, not from the slide.

A pass is a click you watched. Not offered means the vendor does not sell that piece. Fail means you needed a workaround. Treat an unanswered cell as a fail until someone shows you the screen.

The license is not in the software

Where the client sits is not a feature toggle. If the client is in another state, run the interstate telehealth rules for therapists preflight before the hour. The software does not decide where you may practice.

The agreement is a separate check, and it is a legal one. 45 CFR § 164.502(e) says a covered entity may disclose protected health information to a business associate, and may allow that associate to create, receive, maintain, or transmit protected health information on its behalf, if the covered entity obtains satisfactory assurance that the associate will appropriately safeguard the information. The same section requires that assurance in a written contract or other written agreement or arrangement. 45 CFR § 160.103 defines a business associate.

A page that says HIPAA, PIPEDA, GDPR, or PHIPA has told you the vendor’s claim. It has not handed you the contract. Ask for the PDF on the demo. If the host cannot open it, you do not have a telemedicine EHR you can put a real client in.

Do not let a payer’s telehealth rule stand in for that contract, and do not let the contract stand in for the payer. If the visit opens on the chart and the claim still needs a workaround, the billing test is the next hour, not a second video product.

After the visit holds

You now have a marked sheet. The next decision is small.

  • Video, intake, note, and agreement pass: you can stay on that chart for video weeks.
  • Video passes and the agreement is missing: do not move a real client. Book the next vendor.
  • The visit is a second link: you bought a calendar, not a telemedicine EHR.
  • The chart passes and the remaining gap is the note after the hour: do not replace the record to fix the note.

Emosapien is not this purchase. The features page says it listens through the video call you already run, drafts SOAP, DAP, BIRP, or GIRP notes, and writes them back to your EHR. Run this page’s test in the record system. Keep that system if it passes.

If the chart you already have survived the six clicks, and the remaining gap is the draft you still write by hand, start on the free plan and run a fictional session there.

Mark the six clicks on paper while the host is still on the line. A memory of a good demo is not a pass.
