C-SSRS Training: Official Options and Certificate
Outline
Official training options
Interactive course
-
Training: Interactive course. This is the online module in official c ssrs training.
-
Provider: Columbia Lighthouse Project, hosted at cssrstraining.com.
-
Format: Online interactive module. You take it alone, on your own schedule.
-
Length: The project does not publish a separate minute count for this module. Across the free options, the shortest training is about 20 minutes, and almost all of them finish within an hour.
-
Cost: Free. The project lists these options as free, and it says the training is free of charge for community and healthcare use.
-
Certificate: You will not get one from the module. Screenshot the post-test. Then download the blank project-signed certificate and write your name and the completion date.
Prerecorded webinar
-
Training: Prerecorded webinar.
-
Provider: Columbia Lighthouse Project. The training options page tells you to open the project YouTube channel and pick an archived webinar.
-
Format: Archived webinar. Subtitles are available in 30 languages. The trainings are not setting-specific, so you pick the method, not a specialty track.
-
Length: Less than an hour.
-
Cost: Free.
-
Certificate: Same blank project-signed certificate. Fill in your name and the date you finished. The module will not email you one.
Live webinar
-
Training: Live webinar.
-
Provider: Columbia Lighthouse Project. Groups schedule it through the contact form.
-
Format: A live group webinar, so you can ask questions in the session.
-
Length: The training-options page does not list a minute count for the live webinar. Ask for the length when you schedule. Do not assume it matches the 60 to 90 minute on-site session.
-
Cost: Free to request. The page does not list a registration fee.
-
Certificate: Print the project-signed certificate and fill in your name and the completion date after the group finishes.
In-person training
-
Training: In-person training.
-
Provider: Columbia Lighthouse Project. Request it through the contact form. It is offered only in certain circumstances.
-
Format: On-site. The project does not cap the group size.
-
Length: Usually 60 to 90 minutes.
-
Cost: Free to request. Travel reimbursement is not required, and the project says it is welcomed. Do not budget a tuition line. Do decide whether your clinic will cover travel.
-
Certificate: The same self-completed project certificate, with your name and the date of the session.
Research rater training
-
Training: Research rater training. Use this row only if you will administer the scale in a study. Clinical c ssrs training does not replace it.
-
Provider: Columbia Lighthouse Project. The rater-training page lists three paths: BlueCloudX, a Dropbox video library, and a mailed DVD.
-
Format: A 30-minute instructional video plus an optional 8-question self-assessment. On BlueCloudX, enroll in the language module you need. Do not choose the RFMH-Z01 screener module. That module is not rater certification.
-
Length: 30 minutes for the video. The page does not time the self-assessment.
-
Cost: The rater-training page does not list a fee. The project says the protocol and the training are free for federally funded or nonprofit research. If a pharmaceutical company funds the trial, read the licensing page before you enroll. Do not guess the license from the clinical rows.
-
Certificate: BlueCloudX issues a personalized certificate you can reopen later. Sponsors track those certificates. Retrain every 2 years from the date on the certificate, unless you are still administering the scale in a study that runs longer than 2 years. If you watched a downloaded video, go back to BlueCloudX, skip the video, and complete the case questions to get the certificate. DVD shipments are about 3 business days inside the United States and about 7 days outside it.
You typed c ssrs training because a supervisor, a hospital form, or a trial binder asked for a certificate. The five rows are the project’s own options. Pick the row that matches the hour you have, then practice the form you will actually hand someone.

Which version you train on
The project says the trainings are not setting-specific. The form is. A pocket card for coaches and a full lifetime scale are not interchangeable, even after the same webinar. Which form will you actually hand someone this week?
| Your hour | Version to practice | Skip for now |
|---|---|---|
| First outpatient, ED, primary care, or school contact | Setting screener with triage | A new lifetime history |
| Follow-up after you already screened | Since last contact, screener or full | Baseline again |
| You need lifetime and recent history | Full scale lifetime/recent | The five-question shift screen |
| Child, ages 6 to 11 | Screener for children 6 to 11 | The adult recent screener |
| Ages 4 to 5, or cognitive impairment | Full lifetime/recent scale for ages 4 to 5 | An adult pocket card |
| Trial, first visit | Baseline/screening | RFMH-Z01 screener module |
| Trial, later visits | Since last visit | Community since-last-contact as the rater record |
| Every shift or daily | Frequent monitoring screener | The full scale each shift |
Those blurbs are the project’s, on the healthcare and community toolkit. Full scale lifetime/recent assesses full and recent history of suicidal ideation and behavior. Screener basic since last contact assesses ideation and behavior since the most recent assessment, with triage categories. Since last visit, on the research side, is for after the study’s first C-SSRS. The frequent-monitoring screener is the five-question form for every shift or every day.
Triage labels are Low, Moderate, or High, from where the yes answers sit. The project says the most concerning pattern is the same in every setting: a yes in the past month on the two highest ideation items, or any suicidal behavior in the past 3 months. Next steps change by setting. Write next steps that match your own policy and the resources you actually have. A copied ED pathway is not your outpatient pathway.
You do not need special permission to use the tools in a clinical setting, to write your own triage steps, or to place the protocol in the record. The project will review a screenshot if you want a check. For health and behavioral health care providers, it states there is no cost and no license required to put the tools in your EHR. Send questions to the address on that toolkit page.
If the hour is the note after the screen, use the suicide risk assessment template. If the hour is the wider risk workflow, use the mental health risk assessment guide. Columbia suicide rating scale training is this list, not those writeups.
A filled choice
Maya has a new adult intake at 2 p.m. She has not given the C-SSRS. She is not on a trial. She blocks the late morning for c ssrs training and stops when she can name the form.
What you record
Write the path you finished, the form you will use, and the certificate date. A line that says “C-SSRS trained” is not a record a colleague can audit.
Put that line in the chart the same day, next to the form name you will use. Session documentation is one place the date can live. The certificate file still has to be the project’s file. A software field does not create a rater certificate you did not earn.
If the next question is which brief measure you repeat for depression, anxiety, or functioning, leave this list. The scales for mental health matrix is that selection sheet. It does not replace the protocol, and it does not train you on it.
Download the scales matrix
You already picked a training row and a form. The scales matrix is the next job: which brief outpatient measure you repeat, and when you stop.
